Design and Project Management
RCSI
Ascough Consulting Engineers have designed and monitored the installation of a wide range of new and refurbishment projects at the Royal College of Surgeons. These include laboratories (chemistry, microbiology and general), offices, classrooms and other spaces.

UCD Campus Heating Generation and Distribution Masterplan
Ascough Consulting Engineers were engaged by UCD to review and provide energy efficient modifications to the campus district heating system. Additionally, the UCD master plan indicated a near doubling of the campus size over the next 20 years and we were tasked to investigate if the existing infrastructure had sufficient capacity for the planned expansion.
UCD Campus District Heating Modernisation Works
Ascough Consulting Engineers were engaged to carry out energy upgrade works to the district heating system. This involved the installation of new plate heat exchangers and modification of existing heating circuits. Due to limited available system pressures, each plate heat exchanger needed to be carefully selected to ensure adequate hydraulic delivery and control.

Pavilion Bar Refurnishment Trinity College
As part of a full building refurbishment TCD added new toilet and function room facilities to the existing building. Of particular significance was the early adoption of LED lighting in the new extensions and the inclusion of roof mounted solar water heaters which were installed to pre-heat the water directed to the existing calorifiers
Trinity College Institute of Nanoscience Crann Building
This new 6,500m2 €30 million research building houses Trinity College's Nanotechnology Department. The building contains close control laboratory areas and a clean room installation. It also encompasses a lecture theatre, studios and support areas.

Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience - The Lloyd Institute
This science laboratory building contains TCD’s Neuroscience and computer science departments. It hosts a mix of research and experimentation laboratories, lecture halls and classrooms. It also has both human and animal fMRI scan facilities and a specialist Animal Laboratory.
University College Dublin CRID Building
This award wining science laboratory building hosts Category 3+ facilities. It was the highest containment level in Ireland at the time of construction and is of national significance with funding from the NDP. Our project team carried out the design of the CRID when part of ARUP.

Aviva Friends First “Project Energy”
Ascough Consulting Engineers provided M&E services design for an extensive fit-out/ revitalisation project at the 10,000m sq Loughlinstown headquarters. This included the extensive and creative use of exposed M&E services in meeting rooms and break-out spaces.

Eircom HQ
Eircom's HQ building won the SEAI 'Sustainable Building of the Year' Award in 2009 and the 'Sustainable Achievement of the Year' Irish Property Award in 2008. This new 25,000m2 €85 million HQ building for Eircom was completed in the last quarter of 2008. International consultancy firm Arup partnered with Ascough Consulting Engineers to deliver this state of the art building.
PwC
PwC's No 1 Spencer Dock is a comparatively new building built in 2007. This building was already energy efficient by modern standards prior to Ascough Consulting Engineers offering its service. The application of HCO now underway however should deliver savings in gas and electricity of between 30-40% each.

Sheraton Hotel Athlone
Ascough Consulting Engineers were engaged for the design of energy efficient heating and cooling systems including a novel cooling system that uses ground water located via wells below the building as a low carbon and highly cost effective source of year round cooling at the hotel.
Hodson Bay Hotel Roscommon
Ascough Consulting Engineers were engaged for the design of a variety of heating, cooling and ventilation systems including full boilerhouse refurbishment.

Clarion Hotel
This IFSC Clarion Hotel was built in 2000. Ascough Consulting Engineers were subsequently engaged in 2007/8 to manage and give technical input to the retrofit of air-conditioning into the hotel's bedrooms.
Wellington Quay
This existing four storey building is located in the heart of the city centre and was refurbished in 2011. The building was erected in the 1960's and had typical 1960s energy and comfort issues. The client brief for the design team was to produce a low carbon high spec office development with an emphasis on light and space. In addition the client opted to add a 5th floor.

Eir Regional Headquarters Portlaoise
Ascough Consulting Engineers designed and oversaw an extensive remodelling and renewal of the HVAC infrastructure of the mixed use building which yielded a 68% reduction in gas usage.

Eircom Exchanges
Eircom has dozens of telecoms exchanges around Ireland. These exchanges were mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s. Ascough Consulting Engineers in 2011 designed and project managed highly bespoke free cooling solutions to two of the larger exchanges in Dublin and one in Galway.
Datacentres
Ascough Consulting Engineers have been involved in the design and successful handover of highly reliable and efficient HVAC systems for several datacentres requiring cooling in excess of 20MW. (Clients not identified for confidentiality reasons).

Élan Pharmaceuticals
Ascough Consulting Engineers were appointed by Élan Pharmaceuticals to undertake a strategic high level review on the resilience of their IT network back-up systems in the context of best practice. The ensuing report has provided the Élan directors with key information in determining their system status.
Galway Clinic
Ascough Consulting Engineers have been retained by Galway Clinic for a wide variety of more than 40 projects ranging from general plant HTM upgrades to the complete M&E design of a new 4,500m sq diagnostic imaging and A&E extension.

Galway Clinic New Central UPS System
Ascough Consulting Engineers have just completed the design and oversight of a comprehensive upgrade of Galway Clinic’s entire uninterruptible power installation that makes it exemplar in the healthcare sector in terms of electrical supply security for its critical electrical demands. Multiple small localised uninterruptible power systems have been replaced by two independent 600kVA central UPS systems each of which have their own entirely independent distribution systems. These hot-swappable multi-modular central UPS systems are housed in separate fire rated rooms with full duplex air conditioning and automatic fire suppression systems. Each critical power supply position around the building is now served by separate duty and back-up power supplies which can be quickly interchanged by high speed changeover switches. The new system serves patients and hospital systems with a best in class degree of reliability and efficiency.

Hermitage Cath Lab & Step Down Area
Ascough Consulting Engineers were engaged by Hermitage Medical Clinic to design the mechanical and electrical services for their new Cardiac Department Cath Lab and associated stepdown area. This project was successfully delivered in a tight timeframe. It included new UPS and IPS systems as well as careful co-ordination with specialist medical equipment.
Hermitage Medical Clinic ICU Upgrade
Ascough Consulting Engineers were engaged by Hermitage Medical Clinic to design the mechanical and electrical services for their full Intensive Care Unit upgrade project. This project entailed close co-ordination and teamwork and was greeted with much satisfaction by the Client.

Friends First HQ
Ascough Consulting Engineer's included 12 months of energy monitoring and system fine tuning as part of its post installation care programme. This is to ensure that the client obtains maximum benefit from the energy solutions implemented. In the case of Friends First, the energy savings nearly doubled in the fine tuning period.
